Konst Form Talks with Kristina Õllek

Venue: Konst och Form på Gotland, Specksrum 6
Date: May 11th
Time: 17:00
Language: English

During the evening, Kristina Öllek will talk about her artistic work and screen the film, As Earliest Carrier Emerges, created with Kert Viiart in 2024. In the film, we experience the world from the perspective of one of the planet’s oldest creatures – the fascinating 700-million-year-old hermaphrodite – the comb jelly.

Estonian artist Kristina Õllek (b. 1989, Estonia) works with photography, video and installations, often utilising microbial and chemical processes, and focuses on marine ecosystems, geological materials and environments altered by humans.

The artist will be staying at BAC and Campus Gotland for six weeks in April and May as an artistic guest researcher in the GRASS Fellow programme. On Gotland, she wishes to learn more about the island’s water supply and observe the work of marine ecologists on the island. In her own artistic practice, she has drawn inspiration from the fragile deep-sea ecosystems along the North Sea coast and in the oxygen-depleted zones of the Baltic Sea, and their aquatic organisms, such as cyanobacteria and filter-feeding animals.
