BAC shows an exhibition with the German artist Rosa Barba that includes the preview of the new film “Outwardly from Earth’s Centre” which was produced on Gotland this winter within the framework of BAC Production in Residence. The film is built on a narrative of a fictitious society on an unstable piece of land in danger to disappear. This situation requires the population's collective initiative in order to secure the individual's survival and the society to remain. The concept has a certain reality background since Sandön moves approximately one metre a year. The fictitious report of experts strengthens the surrealistic atmosphere that on a creeping way offsets the experience of what perhaps first is considered as a beautiful documentary to a more abstract and slightly absurd picture of people's struggle and vulnerability.

The previous works that also are included in the exhibition demonstrates Rosa Barba’s special interests for the classic film medium. She’s got the focus on the moment before something is happening, intervals, absence or deficiency. Through the use of text, photography or sounds Barba provides filmic experiences that not necessarily have a physical equivalence in the space but is taking place in the beholder and functions as a comment to the nature of the medium.

Rosa Barba is descended from Sicily. Born 1972, lives and works in Cologne and Amsterdam. She is nominated to BAC Production in Residence by Lynne Cooke at DIA centre for the Arts in New York.

Barba is a visual artist with film experience from education, post academic Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. She has exhibited her works in many solo and group shows, has participated in a number of media, video and film festivals (Oberhausen, Rotterdam, Lima, Sao Paolo, Montreal etcetera) and has also been rewarded a number of prices and awards.
