PRODUCTION-IN-RESIDENCE
BAC invites jury nominated International Artists within Contemporary (Visual ) Art to a new Program for Production in Residence (not open for applications). BAC supports the production of a new work, and gives financial, administrative and practical support depending on the character of the project. The production is in Residence, while the artist is free to plan his/her residency in accordance to the need of the production. The artist will have access to a studio and an apartement. BAC supports maximum four Production in Residence Artists / year. Each completed production is presented first in BAC Exhibition Space, and is then free to travel to other venues.
For the last three years BAC has been running a high-profile exhibition program in Visby. Starting 2003, BAC has been given a national role within the field of contemporary art for a three-year period by the Swedish Ministry of Culture. BAC will develop new ways of producing, distributing and mediating contemporary art.
BAC found it self more and more in productions of new works for exhibitions, and it was a short step to state that the production has the highest priorityDuring 2004 BAC will cease to function as a Kunsthalle in the traditional sense. Encouraged by the National role program BAC is changing ways of working, melting together the exhibition program with an Artist-in-residence program transformed into the Production-in-residence program. Giving a priority to the production of new works and the artistic process, this includes the possibility of a process without obvious result and a right not to deliver, encouraging the experiment and contributing to artistic development. |
